A woman police said was driving drunk crashed into the Oklahoma State
Homecoming parade Saturday morning, killing three bystanders,
critically injuring eight more and leaving more than a dozen others with
lesser injuries.
The driver, Adacia Chambers, 25, was arrested
and jailed on suspicion of driving under the influence, Stillwater
Police Capt. Kyle Gibbs said. Police didn’t immediately release any
details about the three killed in the crash, which happened
around 10:30 a.m. ET. University officials said the homecoming game
would still be played.
Paramedics and firefighters participating
in the parade were able to assist the injured immediately,
authorities said. “Tragically we lost three. I hope we don’t lose any
more,” the university's president, Burns Hargis, said in an afternoon
press conference. “The Cowboy family pulls together. Unfortunately,
we’ve had to do it before, and we're going do it again.”
